I'm Excited
posted 08/10/2010 (in the dark of the morning)

I have to tell you, I am excited! I have so many book-related things in the works, until I don't know how I manage to get each done. However, as you know, The Cohort Trilogy is coming to a close-- therefore, I happen to be working on the third book in the series. It's called Iniquities, and I believe you are going to love it! In this, the third book, our lovable buff Beau is back, this is his story, and man does he have stuff going on! Most of what happens, before it happens, you won't see it coming...I hope.

Now let me tell you this. I happened to be in Walgreens the other day, and a lady there asked when could she get the Cohorts' third book. She said, and I quote, "That's the one I'm waiting for!" Well, readers, it will be a minute before she or you can get your hands on this one. I promise you though, as with every novel that I write, I am giving it my all. It is my pleasure to do so. Now I'm not saying that the creation process isn't sometimes stressful, but in spite of that inevitability, I yet try to dig deep, and offer you new or different perspectives, because I believe a good book is like a good home-cooked meal. The preparation of both takes time. In the movie 'This Is It' didn't our King of Pop say 'let it simmer...' Well that's what I'm doing. I have to take my time, to get scenarios and conversations right, for you. I'm letting this simmer. Now don't get me wrong, I love the excitement that readers show. It lets me know that I'm not alone in my book anticipation.

Actually, when I finish a book and am waiting to see it in print for the first time, I feel anxious. I feel this way because I want everything about that book to be right, and beautiful. I want it to be chock full of poignant moments, imagery, wit, class, and sass -- for you! That reminds me, two separate readers, while speaking of my books, used the word 'spicy.' I believe I like that...

Well, since I'm typing, readers, I know I should get back to what I do. When I have more to tell, I'll hit you back. Until then, pick up a good book, preferably one of mine!

As always, I am so grateful that you are interested.

On My Writing
posted 05/14/2010

In a way I am like the characters in my books. They are all different, and each has experienced many things. Like them, sometimes I feel as if I have lived many lives. I tell you this because often I am asked how much of what is in my books is ‘me.’ Well, I will honestly tell you. Not a whole heap of what you see is me, because when characters ‘come to me,’ they already have their own personalities, likes, dislikes, and many other traits.

Now what happens is: if I happen to be writing about a situation similar to one that I may have experienced, I will add bits of that, for realism. However, my job really is to figure out how best to present whomever I’m writing about, to you. It is my job to help you understand the characters. Mind you now, I did not say it’s my task to help you like them –because some of them you will abhor. That I'm okay with, because I am simply the middle person, the conduit, the one who introduces them to you the reader. I am the one who stays obscure, most of the time.

I can't complain though, beause writing is a job I love, and one that I could not do without you. The fact that you read, the fact that you purchase, the fact that you invite me to your bookclub meetings, and the honor that you bestow upon me when you show up when I do a signing, makes what I do possible! Therefore, I truly thank you.

My latest novel Turnabout
posted 03/18/2010

Hi there! I want to tell you what I'm excited about now -- My novel TURNABOUT. It's adult fiction, a romance. Now I've got to tell you, this story is more a traditional love story, for me anyway, because my readers know that traditional is not what I do. I'm not that kind of lady. I can't seem to wrap my mind around traditional or conventional... go figure.

Anyway, this love story is not traditional in that it involves family, friends, and even foes. Oh but it's good!! It's fun, titillating, erotic, witty, thought-provoking... It's many things, and it may even bring you to tears.

Let me give you a little background. TURNABOUT is Abigail's story. She's a smart, sensual, savvy, business woman. She is JaMerican --Jamaican and American-- and boy does MaMa have a temper!

It's also Joseph's story too. He happens to be a successful pop music producer who is attractive in a rugged sort of way. You met both him and Abigail in my debut novel Absolution. Remember? Anyway, Joseph wants more from Abigail than he often gets. Is this because her ex, a real pain in the...you know what is always around? Or is it because there is always someone else getting in the way?

I've got to tell you. I am excited about the release of TURNABOUT. It'll be available at the end of March 2010, or maybe a little before. I'll let you know. Anyway, I need you to get your copy so you can let me know what you think. I'll tell you, sometimes we send out promotional copies before they're fully released and the feedback's been great!

Well gotta run, gotta write, but also note TURNABOUT will soon be available on Amazon KINDLE.

Happy Reading, and remember, if you're an adult who likes good fiction, if you're a woman who loves a great read, then I write for you!! Men can read me too. LOL

On Amazon Kindle - my novel Absolution!!!
Whoo-hoo!
posted 02/28/2010

To all my lovely readers, I must apologize. You all know that I said I would do a weekly blog. And as a writer, you would think it would be easy for me, right? Wrong. I am so not great at blogging. I guess because I really want to write. I love doing research. I adore putting together the stories that you guys email and pen me about. I would love to say that I'll do better with the blogging, but I fear that would be an untruth, so I will only promise, now, to do what I can. What I can promise though, is that I'll let you know when there is something that I truly would like you to know.

That is why I am writing today.

I truly would like you to know that at last! The Kindle e-book for Absolution will be made available. I will let you know the exact date when you can purchase. It should be very soon, a few days at the most. This I am excited about. Then soon to follow that e-book will be others of my novels. My publisher will make these available as well on Kindle.

Well, my dear friends and readers, I must get back to what I do. Gotta go create some drama, put some more characters to work... gotta write. Yet I can't say I'm a great blogger. Go figure.

In My Downtime
posted 01/13/2010

As a writer, in my downtime, when I'm not writing, I read. Go figure.

A day or so ago, I happened to get into a really good book, a historical romance. Yes, I like those, among other genres. I'm not ashamed to say.  Anyway, as I was listening to the book-- I forgot to mention it was an audio book, the author got me. I mean she had me, lock, stock and barrel, in the story with the characters.

I was holding my breath at points and wondering what on earth will happen now? At another juncture, tears came to my eyes, and I felt what one of the main characters in the story was feeling. Wow. Now that was a good book!

That--the experience, the laughter, and the tears are what I strive to give you, my readers. I want to give you emotion. I want you to hang at points, suspended, just wondering...where to next?

Then if I am doing the good job that I sometimes think I am, please let me know, and be kind, because I'll tell you. Other times, while writing, I feel plain frustrated, until my thing starts coming together. It's the nature of the beast, but I love it! I love that I get to do one of the things that I most love. And I get to share it with you, the reader! I ask you, what on earth could be better than that?

Gotta get back to writing, but I just thought I'd share. See you soon.

A Dedicated Reader Asked
posted 01/06/2010

A dedicated reader asked if I'm working on a new book.

My answer: I sure am! I've got a great semi-traditional romance coming out by summer 2010. It's called TURNABOUT and it is adult fiction--as is a lot of my work.

TURNABOUT showcases a woman who happens to be involved with a pop music producer while another man won't leave her alone.  It is a love story that not only involves the main couple, but also family, friends, and foes.

I wrote it like this because isn't that how relationships go anyway? Sometimes when we're involved with someone, don't they meet our family and friends? Don't our exes sometimes also try to create trouble and drama? (Some ex-lovers no longer want us, for whatever their reasons, but they don't want to see us happy either. Go figure.) And don't all of the afore-mentioned people always have something to say? Nevermind that those actually involved in the relationship don't want to hear it. Well, anyway, in this sexy, thought-provoking novel I try to give you some or all of the above, and more.

As the time nears for TURNABOUT to release, I will let you know. Then after you've read it, I want to hear your thoughts. You know I get a kick out of you. You're my inspiration. When writing, I keep you, the reader, in mind.

For you, I want to present very real scenarios. Sometimes I want you to feel the character's upset. I want to make you laugh. If you cry too that's okay. I'd like to make you think. I want to make reading me a lovely worthwhile experience.

Okay, gotta go-- I gotta get back to writing. I'll talk with you soon!
