A few thoughts on 'Idol'

While watching American Idol last night I had a few thoughts. I figured why not share them with you? Perhaps you’ll find that you feel similar. I feel like the judges found some great musical talent this season. Yet the judging sometimes leaves me baffled.

Case and point: singer songwriter Mariah Carey is supposed to be a judge, yet she seems to have the hardest time offering contestants constructive criticism. Personally, I am a huge fan of hers -- been one for decades. However, I thought she was going to bring something to this season of Idol.

Back On Track After Indulging

Hi Friends and Fam,

Since we're fresh off a holiday I must say this . . . There are certain times of year when it is a given that most people will indulge -- or overindulge. Either we'll eat or drink too much. Yet instead of beating ourselves up about it, why not simply enjoy the binge?

I mean what's the point of doing something if we're not going to do it well? No sense in having another helping of that mac ‘n cheese if we're going to moan about it. I mean really, if we're going to eat Aunt Margie's coconut cake, we don't want to monitor every smooth melty mouthful; neither do we want 'the fitness police' bothering us.

Embracing Ourselves

Hello Friends and Fam,

I've been missing for a few weeks, I know. I ask for your forgiveness. I wanted to get with you, I really did, but duty called.

Today, I want to share an excerpt with you from an article I wrote when I was the editor of an Ethnic Beauty site. EntitledEmbracing Ourselves, this article should remind everyone -- no matter what their ethnic origin -- to do just what the title suggests...

Okay, so we cannot possibly live up to enviable images often seen in slick glossy print ads or on television.

Chatting with author Vallory Vance

Hi friends and fam,

I told you we would speak with romance writer           Vallory Vance and here she is!

Do enjoy the following interview with this newly published author and blogger who gave herself the most unique birthday present. With readers she decided to share her stories of romance that range from sweet to spicy.

April:   Vallory, welcome. Please tell readers a little about yourself.

Got a sista hooked...on 666 --The Ave.

Hello friends and fam,

It’s been a while. I trust you all got through the Thanksgiving holiday okay. Myself? I began the day thinking of all the many wonderful things I have to be thankful for. A few of them are: my friends – I’ve got the greatest; my family – my mom is in her seventies and yet she’s as sharp as ever. She moves a little slower, but that just causes us to have to slow down to enjoy her. I am also grateful for readers – you in particular. There are other things. Indeed my list is long, but I’m sure yours is too.

Jordin Sparkles

Okay, I have to tell you the truth, seeing the movie 'Sparkle' wasn't high on my to-do list. I had seen the original, years ago. To me it seemed dark and dull. The singing had been good but the little that  I can remember seemed a bit drab and lifeless. That's why I thought Sparkle 2012 would be a remake, along the same order.

I was pleasantly surprised to find it was not. In this updated musical drama the late great songstress Whitney Houston played a mother trying to raise three determined young women.

Speaking about 'Blue Moon House' with Angelica Dawson

Today readers, I’d like to present…Angelica Dawson. A blogger and author, this mother of a WAY too smart beautiful 5 year-old girl has been married for 12 years. A writer year-round, she gets to travel--a  great time, she feels, for scribbling and making notes. In her new novella she explores BDSM which, more aptly explained, is for those who like to be restrained during sex, those who like to obey or be obeyed, and those who enjoy either inflicting or experiencing pain during the act.

Agatha Raisin & The Haunted House

Hello friends and family. I know I've been unplugged for a while. Got a few projects going, so those have been monopolizing my time. Since the summer is a great time to read and laze about when one gets the chance, I've also tried to do just that. I've even read a few books that I'd like to tell you about.

Today, we'll speak of M.C. Beaton's'Agatha Raisin & The Haunted House.' I have to tell you I am hooked! I love this book. Well, I'm listening to the audio, but same thing.

 Do enjoy the following excerpt:

...Fifteen months after his father’s death, Elijah Moon proposed, to her. That had been back in1967.

It had not been romantic, as she had previously believed a proposal should be. Nevertheless, she’d guessed, it was the best she was going to get, under the circumstances…

Meet Angelica Dawson, a fellow blogger and more...

Today, friends and fam, we have company! I told you that you would meet her… She is a wife, a mother, an erotica & romance author, as well as a blogger; please meet Angelica Dawson.

Hello! April was kind enough to invite me onto her blog to share a little bit about mine. Specifically, what I've learned from all the bloggers I've interviewed! It's a long list, so strap in and let's get started...
